Yep, Indonesia is polluted alright! Especially Jakarta (where I live, BTW)
Live long enough here and you'll shorten your life span. Anyway, it doesn't rain
so much anymore this time of year, although we still have the occasional
out-of-nowhere storms.
Oh and I hate it when it rains here (no offence, Aozora...) because most of the
time it means flood and traffic jam everywhere.
Hi there everyone. I just finished watching "Toki Wo Kakeru Shoujo" or
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It's a romantic movie that takes place in a
high school background. The story is sweet and simple, it has great sceneries
and lovely scores, plus it defines love and friendship in a very interesting
way. Watch the amv here http://www.megavideo.com/?v=KIW35S7F
Don't mind the music, it's not from the movie :p
Anyway, the movie is not very popular. So I'm recommending it to everyone
because it deserves more attention ^_^
@Temari: Graduation as in med school graduation, which is when we say the
Hippocratic oath and officially become doctors :p
Yeah! I infected you mwa ha ha! Spirited Away has the best score music of all
Ghibli's movies IMO < 333
Enjoy the vocalized version of One Summer Day called "Inochi No Namae"
a.k.a "The Name of Life" ^___^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldGms9gbTao
and the ending song.... "Itsumo Nando Demo" a.k.a "AlwaysWith
Me" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqI56Wv64iU
Hi everyone. I thought I'd introduce myself here ^_^
I'm Gaby and I'm here because Aozora's constant advertising this group on Studio
Ghibli's guestbook. It worked...
Nice to meet you all
Hi Minna ^_^ So sorry for being away so long....
My studies are killing me. I miss my life before graduation already. The good
old days when I only have to study on exams...
Anyway, congrats to Temari and Aozora for finishing their exams
I wanted to re watch Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke again if I have the
time. Apart for being great movies, I absolutely love Joe Hisaishi's scores.
Especially "One Summer Day" from Spirited Away
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mavdv0VqOZQ&feature=related)
and Mononoke's theme
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbkwkAI9pig&feature=related)
*goes off playing those music over and over again*
Yes, I'm trying to infect you guys with those beautiful pieces > : D
@Phoenixalcott: maybe watch Totoro or Laputa. Grave of the Fireflies is good too
if you like sad movies.
@Temarigenius: Yep, the LOTR books are deeper than the movies, IMO. And yes, the
main character of the Earthsea books is called Ged. He's a village boy who in
the end become the archmage. He's the bearded wizard who helped the prince in
the movie :p
In the movie, the main character is the young prince (I can't even remember his
name). He killed his father (the king) and then ran away.
The Earthsea book certainly have deeper meanings than the movie :p
It's like reading Eragon or Lord of the Rings (minus the epic battles) The
original book consists of 4 volumes, beginning with Ged while he was a young
apprentice and progressing until he is old. The movie is hard to understand
because it skip all the events until somewhere in the 4th volume where Ged meet
the prince. Also, I personally don't like how the movie seems to focus more on
the prince than Ged himself.
@Temarigenius: O yea, the Earthsea novels are good. I agree with Aozoraskies'
opinion on them. Howewver, a little warning though. It is rather umm... heavy. I
mean, if you're expecting to have a lighthearted and fun fantasy feeling like
the ones on other Ghibli works, then you won't find it. Although it has some
kind of similarity with Princess Mononoke...
@Aozoraskies: Ooh you've read almost all of Diana Wynee Jones books!? Mee too!
*excited* Erm... About Howl, I kind of prefered him more bad tempered. I mean,
in the movie he was childish alright (I remembered that hilarious scene when he
got real upset when his hair color changed ) But,
in the book he's...devilishly charming and more twisted. In the movie he's like
transformed to a kakkoi bishie with a dark secret
not that it's a bad thing, but then that's it. There's nothing more to
him.
Right let's change topic Does
anyone know what's the next Ghibli project?
Hi everyone I'm new here. Thanks for the invite Temarigenius.
I love most of Ghibli movies. Especially Spirited Away, Totoro, and Princess
Mononoke ^_^
I have read the novels Howl's Moving Castle (by Diana Wynne Jones) and Tales
from Earthsea (by Ursula Le Guinn). I must say, the Ghibli version is very
different from the novels. Both the novel version and the movie version of Howl
are good in their own way. The novel have more solid characterization, Howl is
more human and charming in his own way while Sophie feels stronger and
independent than in the movie.
As for Tales from Earthsea, the movie is a total let down for those who have
read the novels. Ged should play a bigger role in the movie IMO.
